ere at Hill End Press we are designing and producing our range of letterpress
cards on our Vintage Gordon Platen Press. Enthusiasm for letterpress came
about when we found our press that had been sitting at an auction room for
two years. For the two of us this was an unexpected encounter that we fully embraced.
It is the wonderful clanking sound of our press echoing the industrial revolution along
with the high quality printing and its handmade appeal that one feels strongly for this
whole process.
Letterpress is the oldest form of printmaking and it requires simply ink, pressure,
paper, and skill. It is combining the old and the new in pursuit of exquisite printing.
This form of printing is no longer taught in the education system and it is for people
like us that fall in love with the process that keep it alive.
Our in house letterpress is constructed using either vintage lead type or photopolymer
plates.
The range is universal and some are inspired by medieval woodcuts and the surrounding
landscape of Hill End this is combined with our own unique style and drawings, we also
have invited artists for other designs.
Our stationery is available at the studio as well as other retail outlets (see the links).
They are beautifully printed on Italian Fabriano cotton paper and come with envelope
and enclosed in a cellophane bag.
Hill End Press is happy to custom make invitations for any occasion.
Artists and designers alike are invited to use the facilities at the
Hill End Press to apply their art-making processes to traditional
printmaking mediums.

WORKSHOPS
Education Programme: Students creativity will be enriched in the landscape of Hill End.
Here at the Press we run workshops for the schools based on historic paintings from 'the
painting grounds of Hill End . Students are taken on the artists walk around the central
town where displayed are images of the paintings from the responses of Russell Drysdale,
Donald Friend, Brett Whitely and Jeffrey Smart. The artworks are discussed and from this
starting point the students will be guided to develop their own interpretation through
photography, sculpture or printmaking. For further enquires contact us at Hill End Press.
